Proposed new or amended Soil Association standards for consultation - 2008
This consultation has now closed. The results of the consultations will be discussed at the next standards board meeting on 6th October. Following the standards board approval, they will be ratified by the Soil Association Council on 6th November. The results will be published here after this date.

Abattoirs and slaughtering - Allowing abattoirs that slaughter organic and non-organic animals, to slaughter organic animals either as the first of the day or after the line has been cleaned. We propose removing the requirement for the organic animals to be the first of the species that day. [PDF, 16 KB]

Equines on organic land - Removing the requirement for an equine health plan if there are more than five equines on organic land. [PDF, 17 KB]
Preventing primary habitat loss - Our standards already prohibit the clearing of primary habitat for organic production, but with the renewed urgency to protect forests around the world we have been looking at how we can tighten them up to guarantee organic farming isn’t contributing to deforestation in any way.
